eFootball is Konami's free-to-play football simulation and the successor to the long-running Pro Evolution Soccer series. Konami retired the PES name in 2021 and moved the franchise to a free base game updated on a seasonal cycle, with eFootball 2024 the season released for the 2023–24 football year.
The base game costs nothing. You download the client and get access to local matches, online quick matches and the licensed clubs Konami holds partnerships with, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and others. Revenue comes from the Dream Team mode, where players build a squad using in-game currency earned through play or bought directly.
On the pitch the series keeps the deliberate, physical feel PES was known for. Ball control, first touch and body positioning carry more weight than raw pace, and the shooting and passing systems reward timing over button-mashing. Konami rebuilt the game on Unreal Engine for this generation, which changed animation and player likenesses considerably from the older PES titles.
eFootball runs on Windows, PlayStation, Xbox and mobile, with cross-platform play between them for most modes. Seasonal updates refresh squads, ratings and events rather than shipping a new paid title each year.
